If Italy is the ‘boot’, then Puglia is the ‘heel’. It is also sometime called ‘the land between two seas’, because it lies right between the Adriatic and Ionian, also ‘the Florence of the South’ due to the stunning Baroque architecture that adorns the facades of Lecce and other towns and finally ‘the mezzogiorno’, an apt allusion for its slow pace of life and sleepy ambience of the noonday sun.
Join the Travelling Chef on this one of a kind travel experience to discover Puglia! We’ll tour amazing cities, tasting the region’s finest cheeses, wines and olive oils. We will explore local villages, dine in wonderful restaurants, cook a traditional Puglian meal with a professional chef, shop on cobblestone streets among masters of cartapesta (paper mâché) renowned in the region.
We have customized this adventure to Southern Italy with a brilliant balance of free time and guided activities with an intimate group of just 6–12 guests. Brindisi > Marina di San Gregorio
Saturday, April 28
Morning arrival at Brindisi Airport. Gioacchino will pick you up in our private van and bring you to Hotel Montecallini in Marina di San Gregorio. This 4-star hotel is located in a quiet area, overlooking the sea, surrounded by an expanse of olive trees and Mediterranean vegetation. Each room has a large private loggia from which you can admire the sea, or the gardens. The central tower, reminiscent of the coastal watch towers scattered throughout the region, sits in front of the large infinity pool and the solarium area, shaded by trees and pergolas.
After check in, enjoy some free time at the hotel or exploring Marina di San Gregorio. At 8 pm we will have our first group dinner at Trattoria Sant’Elia.

Sunday, April 29
Breakfast at Hotel Montecallini. After breakfast we will drive to the town of Miggiano where we will visit the Merico Olive Oil Company, enjoying a snack and a stroll in their historic olive groves. We’ll return to Marina di San Gregorio for some free time before heading to Gallipoli for a walking tour. Once an island fortress, an arched stone bridge was built in 1603 to connect the old town of Gallipoli to the mainland. The bridge and part of the fortress remain today, as do the charm and character of the old town.
We will dine at Restaurant Trattoria Portolano then return to Hotel Montecallini for the night.

Monday, April 30
Breakfast at Hotel Montecallini. Today we visit the local market to purchase all the ingredients needed for our cooking class. After a light lunch at Restaurant La Fulana, a professional chef will work with our group and we will be responsible for preparing a traditional Puglia meal. After our dinner at La Fulana, We return to Hotel Montecallini for the night.

Tuesday, May 1
Breakfast at Hotel Montecallini. After a short drive to Tricase, we will visit and enjoy a tasting lunch at Castel di Salve Winery, which dates back to 1885 and focuses on local Salento varieties like verdeca, negroamaro, primitivo, malvasia nera di Lecce. Enjoy some free time and dinner on your own back in Marina di San Gregorio.

Wednesday, May 2
Breakfast at Hotel Montecallini. Today we check out and transfer to Hotel Risorgimento in Lecce. Originally an inn dating back to 1400, today Hotel Risorgimento is a five-star deluxe resort. After hotel check in, enjoy a free afternoon exploring the ancient and cosmopolitan city of Lecce, with lunch on your own. Tonight we dine at Restaurant Capriccio Divino.
Thursday, May 3
Breakfast at Hotel Risorgimento. Our morning includes a guided tour of Lecce, with visits to masters of limestone-sculpting and cartapesta – Italian papier mâché. Discover Lecce with lunch and dinner on your own.

Friday, May 4
Breakfast at Hotel Risorgimento. Today we will drive to the scenic coastal town of Otranto and enjoy a guided tour. Spend the afternoon exploring and lunching on your own. We will return to Lecce for dinner at Restaurant La Scarpetta.
Lecce > Ostuni > Polignano a Mare
Saturday, May 5
Breakfast at Hotel Risorgimento. We check out of our Lecce hotel and drive to Ostuni, where we will enjoy some free time to explore, then lunch at Restaurant Osteria del Tempo Perso. On we go to Polignano a Mare to check in to the beautiful Cala Ponte Hotel. Dinner on your own.

Sunday, May 6
Breakfast at Cala Ponte Hotel. Today we journey to the amazing cave city of Matera, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We will take a guided tour of this unique town with homes carved into the rock of the hillside. You will have free time to explore and have lunch on your own. Returning to Polignano a Mare, you will have dinner on your own.

Monday, May 7
Breakfast at Cala Ponte Hotel. After breakfast we will travel to Alberobello, another UNESCO World Heritage Site, where you can enjoy the day on your own, enjoying the unique trulli architecture found here. Lunch is on your own. After returning to Polignano a Mare, we will have free time to relax at the hotel before our group dinner at La Locanda dell’Abbazia.

Tuesday, May 8
Breakfast at Cala Ponte Hotel. After breakfast we leave for Brindisi Airport and say our goodbyes!
Nancy and her guests will be joined by guide and co-owner of aTTavola, Gioacchino Passalacqua, is an artisanal Italian food exporter, gastronome and native Sicilian who divides his time between Sicily, Italy and New York. As a native Mediterranean, Gioacchino has developed relationships with food producers, restaurateurs, olive oil companies, chocolatiers, vintners and confectioners.
